Atlanta Skate Parks

Fourth Ward Skate Park

In Spring of 2011, Atlanta’s first public skatepark was greeted with great excitement, featuring a showcase from skateboard legend Tony Hawk, who contributed $25,000 towards the construction of the new facility. Located alongside the Eastside Trail the park offers world-class skateboard amenities as well as a playground and multi-use athletic field. This is where I took my daughter to skate for the first time when she was just 4 years old. It can be a bit intimidating for a kid that age (it can be intimidating for any beginner) she mostly felt comfortable riding her bike down the mid-sized bowl when she first learned. The park gets busy, and as a local who lives less than 5 minutes away, I can say with certainty my favorite time of day to go is on a weekday, in the morning. When no one else is around. Weeknights and weekends are by far the busiest. Most of the skaters are courteous if you bring your young ones. Occasionally you’ll see some rockstar or even professional youth skaters shredding.

Growing up, following Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero, the Bones Brigade- they were always heroes to me, still are to this day. I had the pleasure of meeting Tony Hawk in 2018, and it was awesome. He’s as humble as it gets, though he’s accomplished more for the sport than any other person. He was the first person to skate there at the grand opening. In May of 2017, the legend showed up unannounced and with no fanfare and no sponsors. He just
came to skate and then dip out.

The Skatepark is adjacent to the Eastside Trail and is just down the trail from Historic Fourth Ward Park, which is one of the most popular parks along the Beltline’s Eastside Trail.

The parks is lighted, has public restrooms available, and is for skateboarders of all levels.

Arthur Langford JR Skate Park

Atlanta’s second official skatepark, funded in part by a grant from the Coca Cola Foundation, is designed for beginner level skateboarders. Arthur Langford, Jr. Park is located just a few blocks from the unpaved Atlanta BeltLine Southside Trail in the heart of the Joyland neighborhood. The park is named after the late Arthur Langford, Jr., who served as a member of the Atlanta City Council and the Georgia Senate, and was the father of former First Lady of Atlanta Sara-Elizabeth Reed. It’s a medium sized skate park, with some epic street art, some cool ledges and there is also a playground for kids as well as a basketball court. It’s mostly stairs and rails, no ramps. The park is not lighted.

McKoy Skate park

Cool little skate park in Decatur with some medium sized bowls and older wooden ramps and quarter pipes. There are rails to grind on as well. During the weekends, A lot of small children will ride their hoverboards and even bikes with training wheels, so you got to keep an eye out. All ranges of skill levels, but mostly for beginner to intermediate and some professional. This skate park is completely fenced in. Outside of the skate park, there is a pavilion, playground,
baseball field and swimming pools as well. All in the heart of Decatur’s historic
Eastlake neighborhood.

Brook Run Skate Park

Located in Dunwoody, this skate park has a wide variety of options for skateboarders of all ages and levels. Having a skateboard shop, Brook Run Skate shop is a nice bonus. Great bowl section, pool with vert, a wide-open street area with some rails not found at many parks like this. This park was built with some hesitation from the Dunwoody residents but has proven to be a success. It’s one of the most highly reviewed skateparks in all of Atlanta. There is ample covered
and shaded space as well and the park is lighted.

About Us

Skateboarding is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and this number grows at over 10% a year. Now that skateboarding is an Olympic sport, the popularity and number of kids wanting to learn to skate has skyrocketed.

When my 8-year-old daughter showed a real interest in skateboarding, I could teach her the basics on pushing off, balance, the basics. But I knew if she wanted to take her game to a new level, she needed lessons from someone other than her dad. I looked online and had a hard time finding local skateboarding lessons. The best I could find was a national referral network that seemed to price gouge.
